01/01/08 - It begins!

Firstly - Happy New Year, fellow RetroChallengers!

This morning got off to an interesting start when a faulty electric shower repeatedly threw the household circuit breakers, meaning that the power supply to the sockets was also affected. As a result of this my LC475 server has been restarted several times today so sorry if anyone couldn't access it.

The server has been running since the middle of last month and so far seems to be a great success. Mac HTTP's log shows that there have been quite a few visitors from around the world, though many of the hits are from Google and Yahoo bot crawlers. There have been absolutely no problems with the machine itself and any downtime has been brief and generally due to power or network issues. I will shortly be writing a page detailing the setup of the server a bit more with some pictures of it's location in my "server cabinet" (basically the bottom drawer of a 1970's desk).

Other than that I have been going about upgrading my sister's iMac G3 from OS X "Panther" to "Tiger". She recently got a new iPod Nano and unfortunately they only seem to be compatible with Tiger or later. Rather annoying really since the current version of iTunes runs fine under 10.3 and so should the iPods. Hurumph!
